Widow Holi in Vrindavan: A Captivating Photo Narrative by Tanusree Mitra

Widows of Vrindavan Celebrate Holi at Gopinath Temple Thanks to SULABH HOPE FOUNDATION. In a heartwarming event organized by the SULABH HOPE FOUNDATION, widows in Vrindavan came together to celebrate Holi at the Gopinath Temple. This memorable occasion marked a significant departure from years of social isolation and humiliation that these women had endured.

From early morning, widows residing in various shelter homes began gathering at the Gopinath Mandir, where they prepared colorful flower petals for the festivities. Dressed in white sarees, these women joyfully smeared colors on each other, reveling in the celebration of the festival. They danced, sang, chanted Lord Krishna’s name, and played with vibrant hues.

Sulabh, an international NGO, has been tirelessly working for the empowerment of these widows since August 2012. It was an unforgettable experience for me to witness these widows dancing, sharing colors, and enjoying themselves. They warmly welcomed visitors and photographers, treating them like family, and sharing their joy. Some even embraced me, extending a heartfelt welcome as if I were their own daughter. I will forever cherish the memories of their radiant expressions.
